OK, so the, premise to this is that I had spoken with some friends previously about an Advanced Riders Course and that its something worth doing. One of my friends (Dan) ended up in conversation with my dad on the very same subject and mentioned that he was planning on doing a course of that nature down in South Wales at the Harley Davidson instruction centre – Riders Edge. As it was coming up to my birthday my dad ran the idea past me and of course I jumped at the chance!
Road trip + Advanced course + Harley experience = What’s not to love!
So we (as a 3, Dan, Liam and myself) found a weekend that we were all available on and got it booked in.
Having not actually read up on that much on what the course was about I thought I’d best have a quick look (as linked) RidersEdge
Looks good. lets Get goin!
So the plan being, Dan (on his Harley Sportster) was going over to North Wales on the Thursday night, I’d ride over (on my Honda Hornet) to him on the Friday lunch and we’d them both ride down to Llandrindod Well (where the Hotel is), while Liam was to ride up (on his Ducati 749) from South East London all to arrive at the same time (ish).
So I packed my bag (just the rucksack – the Knox one – surprisingly spacious), filled my tank, and off I went!
The first leg: Macclesfield to Abergele

Given the forecast was patchy rain, I didn’t see a drop! The route was however good, the Macclesfield to Plumley leg was as usual very pleasant with good, wide, twisty roads opening up to ‘not too boring’ dual carriageway, the A559.
Once around Chester however the ride becomes an entirely different story, high speed dual carriageway. Constant speed…. numb fingers and wind noise! great! pretty tiring if not from a boredom perspective.
1 re-fill, 4 painfully numb fingers (even with the heated grips on) and 70 miles covered, in just over a hour.
The boring bit over and done with!
Now lets have some fun!
Part II Coming Soon!!
